Welcome
to Commotion School of Performing Arts.
The following is an introduction to our school and how we operate:
INTRODUCTION:
Ben Stokes founded Commotion School of Performing Arts in February,
2002. Ben wanted to open a unique studio that was parent friendly and
which provided a relaxed yet professional approach to performing arts.
Commotion aims to offer high quality performing arts education at a
minimal cost to parents. Our policy includes low fees, inexpensive costume
hire, flexible dress code and convenience of location. While remaining
affordable and hassle-free, Commotion School of Performing Arts provides
quality teaching with an emphasis on performance professionalism. "Dancing
without the fuss."
OUR
AIM:
To provide a safe, educational and recreational environment for all
ages, with high-energy classes taught by experienced teachers in a friendly
and encouraging atmosphere.

FEES:
At Commotion students who are enrolled in more than one class per week
receive a discount. Please refer to the table below.

UNLIMITED
- For just $50 per week, students do as many classes as they want. There
up to 20 classes available for some age groups. This is great value,
and the perfect option for students who really love their dancing. This
includes all classes in all styles, even Acrobatics and Ballroom. (Musical
Theatre Club not included)
'Unlimited' students recieve a number of bonuses, making the plan even
better value. Troupe membership is FREE, saving $5 dollars each week
($200 a year). Musical Theatre Club is discounted by $5 per week, (saving
you further $200 per year). 'Unlimited' students also get a massive
20% discount off all Commotion Workshops for the enrolment year.
These
prices apply for all group classes. Private dance lessons are available,
and are $20 for 30min. Troupe membership is a flat fee of $5 per week,
regardless of how many troupes the student is in. This fee covers all
Troupe costumes and eisteddfod entry fees. (Remember,
'Unlimited' students pay no Troupe fees)
The
above fee schedule does not apply for MUSICAL THEATRE CLUB. This is
because of the extended duration of the class, and the additional costs
in running the class such as costumes, props, guest teachers, vocal
coaching and more. The MUSICAL THEATRE CLUB costs $20 per
week. This price is all inclusive and no other fees will
be charged throughout the year (ie. costume fees etc.) ('Unlimited'
students only pay $15 per week for this class)
All classes
missed must be paid for. Cheques should be made out to Commotion School
of Performing Arts.
NEW
ENROLMENTS:
Enrolments will be accepted at any time during school terms 1 and 2,
depending on class sizes. Due to preparations for our end of year concert,
we cannot accept new enrolments after Term 2. If you wish to enroll
your child, please see the front desk, or the studio director, Ben,
to establish whether there are vacancies. Parents will need to fill
out and sign an enrolment form for their children.
Once classes
reach their maximum size, new students' names go on a waiting list.
DRESS
RULES:
There is no set uniform at Commotion School of Performing Arts. It is
necessary, however, that all students wear appropriate dance attire
(no jeans or restrictive pants, jumpers, skirts etc.) Correct shoes
must be worn for each class. For safety reasons, no jewellery or watches
should be worn to class.
Commotion
School of Performing Arts t-shirts, which are not compulsory, are available
for $20. Orders are processed each term. See the front desk to see when
the next order is being filled. There is also a range of Commotion dancewear
available at very reasonable prices.
FOOD
AND DRINKS:
Cold drinks and snacks are available for sale at the studio on most
days, and all the money raised goes towards the costume fund, minimising
the end-of-year-concert & costume fee for parents.
TROUPES:
Commotion School of Performing Arts has five main performance troupes:
8/u, 10/u, 12/u, 14/u and Open Age. Auditions are held at the beginning
of each year. Student who enroll after the audition date may audition
privately. All Troupe costumes are provided free of charge. Troupe students
must read and sign Troupe student contracts which contain rules and
guidelines about behaviour, attitude, commitment and attendance at rehearsals
& performances.
Our
troupe students perform regularly at various local events and functions.
They also compete in several eisteddfods and competitions.
PRIVATE
LESSONS:
Private lessons for dance, singing and drama are available, however
there are limited places. If you are interested, please contact the
studio. Private lessons are $20 for 30 minutes.
SINGING
& DRAMA CONCERT:
Half way through the year Commotion holds a singing and drama recital.
All students enrolled in Singing and Drama are invited to perform.
END
OF YEAR CONCERT:
At the end of each year, Commotion holds its annual dance concert. All
students from all classes are invited to perform. It is held in late
November or early December and may require special rehearsals leading
up to the event. Costumes are required for the performance. Parents
will be charged a costume hire fee of $30. This fee also covers the
stage rehearsals, and the medal and certificate that each child recieves
at the end of the year.
